Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Berkeley public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Councilmember Harassment and Public Safety
Former and current Berkeley officials are warning that harassment and death threats are pushing elected leaders out of public service. They point to Rigel Robinson’s 2024 resignation and recent stalking incidents targeting Councilmember Igor Tregub. If you care about who runs your city, this is a sign that public safety for officials is becoming a civic retention problem.
PROWAG accessibility in the public right-of-way
Disability advocates pressed the city to move faster on making accessibility guidelines enforceable in city construction contracts, saying six to eight more months to write contract language is too long.
Police Station Fire
A small fire and sprinkler mishap at the Berkeley Police Department forced an evacuation and briefly scrambled 911 calls to the county. Luckily, normal operations are already back up and running.
